FAQ

1. Where are J.C.Lutz shoes crafted?

J.C.Lutz shoes are entirely made in Italy in the region of Le Marche renown worldwide for its generations-old, high-quality shoemaking. All processes from raw materials to final shoes take place in our family-run atelier with no outsourced work. As a consequence, our shoes fully deserve the “made in Italy” badge of honor.

2. What materials are used to craft J.C.Lutz shoes?

J.C.Lutz shoes are made of calf leather and suede upper stitched manually to natural rubber soles.

3. Why are J.C.Lutz shoes so expensive?

The largest part of J.C.Lutz shoe price goes toward the two most important factors in shoemaking: high quality materials and top-notch shoemakers. We also want our artisans to be fairly remunerated for their skills and work. It goes without saying that both items come at a cost and we do not want to compromise on them. Please also consider the upside of this: quality shoes, if taken care of correctly, will last many years, so that the actual cost per year will be marginal with respect to cheaper quality shoes lasting only one season or less.

4. Why are J.C.Lutz shoes cheap for their quality?

At J.C.Lutz we follow a very efficient process consisting of: a Made-To-Order business model to craft only what our customers want thus avoiding any waste coming from unsold items, a direct-to-consumer approach that cuts off all intermediaries (retailers, distributors, wholesalers both physical and online) between our atelier and the final customer. On top of this, we do not employ unreasonable marketing budgets that need to be recouped through inflated retail prices.

5. To what extent is J.C.Lutz sustainable?

We approach sustainability looking at both the human and the environmental side. We believe that work should be paid fairly so that all workers can afford a proper life for themselves and their families while working in the safest possible way. Needless to say, we believe that children should spend time going to school, doing sports, playing music, drawing, playing with friends, in a word, being kids and not putting in hours after hours in sweatshops to produce garments and shoes as cheaply as possible. That’s why our shoes are made entirely in Italy by master craftsmen with calf leather coming from Italian tanneries and according to all relevant laws and regulations.

By the same token, we do the planet a favor by choosing the Made-To-Order (MTO) business model so that we craft any single pair only when it is ordered. By doing so, we avoid the mass production that makes the apparel and shoemaking industries among the top polluting ones in the world. Also, J.C.Lutz shoes are shipped directly from the atelier where they are crafted thus preventing the long shipping and the associated pollution of global supply chains.

This being said, are we perfect? No way. But we see this as a starting point toward constant improvement over time.

6. Where can I buy J.C.Lutz shoes?

You can buy J.C.Lutz shoes only online from our website so that no additional costs (may they be retailers, distributors, importers) are factored in the final retail price and your value for money is maximized.

7. Does J.C.Lutz run sales?

No. And for good reason. Given our Made-to-order, direct-to-consumer business model, we make shoes only once the order is placed thus avoiding the mass production that leaves the majority of items unsold and ready for sales, outlets or, worse, direct disposal. The best way to look at it is that at J.C.Lutz every day customers get the best possible price as no pair of shoes is ever sold overpriced.

8. How can I get the proper foot measurement?

Please follow the instructions provided on the website when selecting your size.

9. Can I cancel an order?

If you have second thoughts on your purchase, contact us as soon as possible and if the order has not been processed yet, we will cancel it and refund you. However, if the order has already been processed, we will not be in the position to cancel it.

10. Can I return shoes?

If shoes are somehow faulty, we will fully refund your purchase after shoes are returned (unworn) and the fault has been inspected and designated at such at our atelier. As for models selected among those listed in the “Inspirations” section, you can return them within two weeks (unworn and in the original box) provided they are not customized through initials. Other than that, all of the shoes, being the result of a personal customization process down to engraved personal initials, cannot be returned and refunded in any case.

11. How does the whole process work?

As a first step, you create your shoes by selecting the desired materials and colors for each part. Once the order is placed, it will take about 2 weeks for your customized shoes to be crafted and then they will be shipped directly to you from our atelier in Italy. Please allow for additional time for delivery. We take our most care to respect this timing but sometimes delay can occur due to unforeseen events. In this case, we trust you will appreciate more the quality and the long duration of the shoes over the minimal delay.

12. When can I expect J.C.Lutz shoes to be delivered?

We do our best for you to receive your shoes within 3 weeks from placing your order. However, this time can vary according to several factors such as, for instance, holiday periods, demand peaks, place of delivery, sourcing of materials. So we kindly ask you to allow for some flexibility on this.
